The Comfort
Food & Drink
Breakfast is served between 8 and 11 am in the owners' dining room or in the courtyard, weather permitting. A self service buffet offers tea, espresso and American coffee, grain coffee, milk, yoghurt, fresh juices and ricotta cheese in season, fruit, durum wheat bread, Sicilian sweets, organic jams and marmalade, Etna and Ibleo honey, cheeses.
The cellar contains a selection of Italian wines, Sicilian in particular. We pay close attention to developments in local wine growing, both with the big producers and the smaller houses, especially in the area around Etna which has been dubbed “little Burgundy of Italy”. Guests are provided with a list of local wines.
Food is no problem: there are three restaurants walking distance from Borgopetra and eating at home is no trouble. The delightful traditional Sicilian masonry kitchens are well-appointed and stocked with all the basic ingredients: extra-virgin olive oil from Etna and Ibleo, aromatics from the herb garden, salt and sugar, coffee, tea and infusions, organic jams and honeys. The shops are just round the corner and Sicilian “ready meals” are delicious: “schiacciate” (local covered pizza with various fillings), rice croquettes, grilled artichokes, oven-baked aubergines dressed in oil and oregano, ricotta and cheeses.
The Theatre bar is self-service: guests can prepare drinks of syrups typical of Catania's street kiosks.
Drinking water in glass bottles is provided every day to Borgopetra’s guests. Mascalucia’s water is very hard and has a high vanadium content. We use two systems, one for softening and one for reverse osmosis, to purify it: the result is water that is better than that which you find in the shops.
